Central Districts Junior Division Audition Information (2011-2012 7th & 8th Graders)
The auditions for the 2012 Junior Division Central District Festival will be on Saturday February 4, 2012 (snow date: Feb. 11), Location: TBA.
The rehearsals will be
Monday, April 9 2012 and Wednesday, April 25 2012
at Tantasqua Regional High School, Sturbridge, MA.
The final concert will be Saturday, April 28 2012 at Marlborough JHS, Marlborough, MA.
Please speak with Mr. Glynn if you are interested in auditioning. You should consider taking some lessons to help get a head start on this music. See the private lessons page for information about music lessons on your instrument or voice. Mr. Glynn is available for extra help with auditions during the school year.
What to Play
Each instrument or voice has its own audition piece (see Mr. Glynn about getting your copy). Also, each student auditioning must prepare the following scales:
FLUTE - OBOE - Bb CLARINET - BASS CLARINET - ALTO SAXOPHONE - TENOR SAXOPHONE - BARITONE SAXOPHONE - BASSOON - TRUMPET - FRENCH HORN - TROMBONE - EUPHONIUM B.C. - TUBA - MALLET PERCUSSION
PERCUSSION – ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
SNARE DRUM:
Students must bring their own snare drum, as the tuning of the instrument used will affect the overall score.

1. Moderately closed long roll with dynamics ff, pp and pp < ff
2. 5 and 9 stroke rolls, alternating (open & closed)
3. 7 stroke roll, left hand lead (open & closed)
4. Flam Accents 1 and 2
5. Flam paradiddle
6. Single and Double Paradiddle
TIMPANI:
1. single stroke roll with dynamics ff > pp and pp < ff
2. student should tune timpani to required pitches
3. Sight reading on two timpani
MALLETS (Keyboard Percussion):
1. Students must bring their own selection of xylophone mallets.
2. Mallet players must be prepared to play on a 3 & 1/3 octave xylophone.
